Why Do Things Sometimes Get Worse Before They Get Better?

Looking at the life of Esther, didn't  Mordecai tell her that maybe she was at the palace for 'such a time as this?'  Didn't Mordecai   and his the whole nation fast and pray along with the Queen?  Didn't the King hold out his scepter to Esther giving her an audience with the King?  It seemed like everything was going exactly as planned.  Until this verse of the story comes along:

Esther 5   Then said Zeresh his wife and all his friends unto him, Let a gallows be made of fifty cubits high, and tomorrow speak you unto the king that Mordecai may be hanged thereon: then go you in merrily with the king unto the banquet. And the thing pleased Haman; and he caused the gallows to be made.

You mean after all that has happened.  After all the signs of things working out.  After all the fasting, and the King holding out his scepter to Esther now things are going to get worse!

Absolutely.

In nearly every bible story  ever written, the people turned to God in their crisis.  God began leading them and they obeyed putting their trust in him, and then things GOT WORSE instead of better.

If you have been praying and things have gotten worse instead of getting better don't be surprised.  This is the normal way that God answers prayers, he often let's things get worse before they get better.  Just because things get worse before they get better doesn't mean that God is not answering your prayers.

Moses was sent to Egypt.  The Hebrews were so happy that God had finally heard their prayers.  Moses went to Pharaoh with the sign of the leprosy and the snake.   And what happened?  Did they get free at first?  NO!  Things only got worse!

Are you trusting and believing God for something, and now things have gotten worse?  Praise God.  You are right on track.  God has a history of taking things from bad, to worse, to practically dead where only a MIRACLE will fix it, and then giving a MIRACLE just in the nick of time and everything is better than you thought it could ever be!

We get certain expectations when we pray.  Esther had prayed that God would deliver her people from the evil man Haman.  They fasted and prayed and sought the LORD for help and deliverance but things only got worse after that.  Haman built gallows for Mordecai and all of his family.  How could it go from bad to worse.

I know I am talking to someone today and in spite of your fasting and prayer things have went from bad to worse for you.  One thing about bible stories that you have to remember is that they are NEVER happy stories until the very last chapter of the story.  No matter what you are facing today, you haven't gotten to the final chapter of your story.  In the end is when God sends the angel to shut the lions mouth.  In the end of the story is when they see the fourth man in the fire.  In the end of the story is when the waters part and they go through on dry land, in the end of the story is when you are resurrected from the prison to the palace, in the end of the story is when the rain is gone, the land is dry and God's rainbow appears.

Don't give up and don't be afraid.  God will not fail you.  You haven't gotten to the final chapter of your trial just yet.  Keep standing in faith a  miracle is always waiting at the end of the story.  And the greatest ending will be when you walk into heaven.
