Are you hungry for God?

Romans 10: 17  1  So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Faith comes by hearing.  What do you have to do?  You have to get to a place where you are hearing!   Jesus said,  

Matthew 5:6 Blessed are they who do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

If you are truly hungry for the things of God you are going to find someplace where you can hear the Word of God.  What do we do when we are hungry?  We wake up, and go eat breakfast.  Then we  work for a few hours, then we are ready from lunch.  Then we go through the rest of our day, and we are looking to eat again.  If we can't find food, we will search for it.  We will drive across town, spend  money, take time to sit down...we are going to eat food, because we get hungry!

Jesus said  you are blessed if  you hunger and thirst for righteousness.  When we hunger and thirst after God we will do whatever it takes to hear the word of God.  Faith comes by hearing.  The more you hear the Bible, the more you will have faith in what the Bible says.  Hearing goes beyond the written Word of God.   God speaks to our hearts, and writes his Word upon our hearts.  God's voice is a still small voice that leads and guides us through this life when we are listening.  When God speaks to your spirit and he writes his Word upon your heart, the Word of God becomes alive, active, quick and powerful.  It takes on new life and new meaning.  When you have heard God speak to your heart, faith comes easily to you.  It is easier to take a stand of faith when God has written his Word upon your heart.  Faith comes by hearing.  It is hard to know what direction to take in life when we have not gotten a clear direction from God.  Once we know what the will of God is,  because he spoke it to our heart,  it is much easier to stand with confidence and declare his Word to others.

Does hearing God come by listening?  Yes, we must listen, but what are we to listen to?  Faith comes by hearing, but hearing (God) comes by the Word of God.  If you want to hear God then devour the Word of God.  Read the Word of God until God imprints something of his word upon your heart.  Hearing does come by listening.  It comes by listening to the Word of God.  You can sit and pray and be quiet and wait for the voice of God, meditate, try to clear  your mind, hum, chant, or whatever...but this is not the kind of listening that is required to hear God.  You can yoga, clear you mind, do special exercises and breathing techniques but this is not the kind of listening that leads to revelation from God.  If you want spiritual awakening,  and revelation,  the kind of listening and hearing that is required is listening to and hearing the Word of God.  God reveals himself and his will through his Word, the Bible. 

People are searching and searching for truth, for peace of mind and security of faith.  God delivers these things.  He delivers these things to those who listen to his Word and meditate on his Word day and night. 

Isaiah 26: 3-4

You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on you: because he trusts in you.

Trust in the LORD forever: for in the LORD GOD is everlasting strength:

 

Peace is found as you keep your mind on the things of God.  Strive to hear the Word of God continually and search for it like you search for food.  It will bring health to you and life to your soul.
