How Can I Overcome This World?

Life is short, eternity is a long time.
Matthew 7:24-27
24 “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: 25 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.
26 “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: 27 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”

Every decision we make is providing material for the foundation of  this life and the next. What kind of building material are we supplying for our foundation?
This is a very important question because there is always a storm on the way.   So many times our lives fall apart because we didn't build our lives on the Scriptures.  And the sad part is that we don't realize that our refusal to line up with the Scriptures is the very thing that has destroyed us.

Jesus said if you hear his words and do them you will be able to endure the storms, but if you hear them without doing them you will fall.

The thing we must always keep in mind is that this life is temporary and the next is eternal. We must decide which life we want to invest in.  Jesus said to lay up our treasures in Heaven.
Play now pay later is the this worlds way, and that may seem to work for awhile, but in the end the payment is more than you can afford.  Lost jobs, lost family, lost health, the life you tried to hold on to lost.
Gods way seems contrary to common sense, if you want to hold onto life you will lose it, but if you lay your life down for Jesus, you will find it.
Living for this world will never satisfy, it will always leave you empty and searching for something else.
Scripture teaches us another way to live.

Matthew 6:33
But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

This may be one of the most ignored scripture in the Bible, but one of the most important.

One thing we must realize is God is smarter than us, and if He says something we should listen.
Making choices based on an eternal mindset works for both worlds, this temporary one and the eternal one to come.
Making choices based on this temporary world does not work, in the end this only brings us destruction.
God is offering us a way to overcome this world and to prepare for the next. Build your life according to Gods word, seek his kingdom, call on Jesus and let him live through you.
